Resilience to wildfire is of increasing importance to electric utilities. In recent years, wildfires have ignited in areas less accustomed to experiencing them (e.g., southeastern United States), have burned with heightened severity and rapid spread (e.g., Maui wildfires in August 2023), and have occurred in unexpected times of year (e.g., January 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles County). Wildfire is transforming from a regional hazard with well-defined seasons to a potentially year-round hazard occurring throughout the country.
