Agrivoltaics: Where Renewable Energy Meets the Food System

In 2012, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Sunshot Vision Study set a goal of generating 14%, or 329 gigawatts (GW), of the nation’s electricity from solar generation by 2030.1 Since then, several states announced their own solar-generation goals, including New York State (NYS). In July 2019, NYS passed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), committing to 70% zero-emissions electricity by 2030 and 100% by 2040. This commitment includes the installation of 6,000 megawatts (MW) of solar power by 2025.
