As decarbonization efforts advance, stakeholders such as power system owners, operators, and regulators will face numerous decisions regarding investments and adaptations to the electric grid in the decades ahead. Enabling the grid to handle more frequent extreme weather events, resulting in a more resilient power system, is essential.
In the face of climate risk and uncertainty, EPRI’s three-year Climate READi™ (Power REsilience and ADaptation initiative) is working to provide the energy sector with a common framework to:
- Assess vulnerability of the power system and probable impacts to society under a wide variety of weather variables
- Develop cost-benefit analysis, risk mitigation, and adaptation strategies
- Create guidance for more informed investment and deployment decisions
- Build resilient energy systems that last well into the future
