Hydrogen Technology Cost Projection Tool

The cost of hydrogen electrolyzer technologies is expected to continue to decline as deployment increases. The rate of these technology cost declines is dependent on a number of factors, including hydrogen demand, technology deployment rates, and the learning rates for the technologies and their components as manufacturing expands to meet demand.

This study sought to develop a framework for projecting cost curves for hydrogen production technologies, including PEM and Alkaline electrolyzers, to enable a better understanding of cost and performance dynamics under potential future deployment scenarios. An Excel-based tool, attached to this report, provides the user with the ability to explore the impact of different user-defined scenarios on electrolyzer cost projections. This report provides background on the project, the tool development and assumptions, and sample results and insights.
