The first two years of EPRI’s Exploring Climate Impacts in Utility Operations and Planning Interest Group (ECI IG) systematically catalogued the potential impacts of climate change (“climate impact pathways”) across the entire electricity system from generation to the grid to the customer. This work established the foundation for EPRI’s Climate Resilience and Adaptation Initiative (Climate READi) which launched in 2022. ECI IG’s Year 3 programming will turn focus outward on the potential implications for the power sector of climate impacts on adjacent sectors (e.g., natural gas, telecommunications, and civil infrastructure) and supply chains. It will also identify opportunities for learnings and effective methods in climate preparedness from the adjacent sectors that could be utilized by electricity stakeholders.
