How can we understand and quantify the need for integrated modeling of electricity and natural gas networks for use in operations, with potential impacts on planning and market operation and design?
In this report, we investigate the benefits of modeling gas sector operations when modeling the operation of bulk power systems. We demonstrate a process of iterating between a power system model (unit-commitment and economic dispatch) and a gas network model to take into consideration potential constraints on just-in-time delivery of natural gas to gas fired electric generators and the impact that may have on the power system.
