Once an emerging technology, the installed capacity of bifacial photovoltaic (PV) modules has grown significantly over the last few years, representing nearly 50% of the global market share in 2021, with projections for bifacial installed capacity approaching 80% of the global market in 2031. During this time, there have been multiple tariff developments that have affected the cost of bifacial modules in the United States. This Renewables Insight updates the April 2020 Renewables Insights: Bifacial PV Modules – Section 201 Tariff and Cost Updates, discussing recent changes in 2022 to the U.S. Section 201 tariff regarding bifacial modules and summarizing the cost and performance results of the bifacial module plant analysis within EPRI’s 2021 Solar Technology Status, Cost and Performance report.
