The Sustainability Benchmarking for Utilities project (Benchmarking Project) is a research collaborative consistently comprising roughly 30 or more electric power companies that provides participants with an opportunity to 1) benchmark company data on industry-specific benchmarking metrics using a confidential online platform and 2) share and learn from company leading practices and industry subject matter experts.
As the Benchmarking Project approaches its sixth anniversary, EPRI and participating companies seek to share learnings. The intention of this report is to share summary results and insights from EPRI’s annual benchmarking efforts. The report addresses why electric power companies may be interested in sustainability benchmarking, how different company characteristics can impact benchmarking, and how the Benchmarking Project can help companies better manage and measure performance on industry priority sustainability issues. It also provides an overview of aggregated results from the 2021 benchmarking effort for 10 “core” sustainability metrics. The topics and metrics covered in this report are intended to advance a broader dialogue around sustainability for the electric power industry.
