The Value of Carbon Dioxide Removal: Opportunities for Global Climate Management, the Electric Sector, and Companies

Carbon dioxide (CO2) removal refers to technologies that on net can remove CO2 from the atmosphere. As such, these technologies are a potentially potent, and possibly essential, strategy for helping manage future climate change and the possibility of rapid industry and company level decarbonization. This research explores and develops insights regarding the potential value of CO2 removal (CDR) technologies—first through a review of existing analyses, and then with new analysis that explicitly explores CDR’s value to temperature goals and the electric sector. The research concludes with company perspectives and concluding thoughts, including additional research opportunities.
