Post-2030 Climate Policy Sensitivities

This presentation summarizes EPRI research conducted under Program 103 to evaluate the potential impacts of possible future climate policy. A range of sensitivity cases are developed, including carbon tax scenarios, Clean Air Act scenarios, and scenarios where new fossil units are prohibited. The impact of each scenario on different electric sector technologies is evaluated, as well as the CO2 and electric sector cost implications. The analysis finds that many potential policies fail to achieve significant electric sector CO2 reductions in isolation, because they do not cover all technologies. Combinations of policies may be more effective at reducing CO2 emissions, but the potential costs differ greatly depending upon the specific combination employed.
