MERGE (Model for Evaluating Regional and Global Effects) is a global energy and climate analysis tool that integrates economic activity, energy systems, and environmental impacts to model how regions produce, consume, and trade energy over time. It captures interactions between technologies, fuels, resource availability, emissions, and economic growth to evaluate decarbonization pathways and policy outcomes. It is used to analyze global and regional energy transitions, including the evolution of low-carbon fuels, trade flows, and energy demand under different policy scenarios. It highlights regional differences in technology adoption and emissions pathways in these scenarios, enabling insights into decarbonization strategies, and the role of emerging fuels such as hydrogen, biofuels, and synthetic fuels.
