This article examines differences in assessments of the aggregate impacts of climate change on the global economy. These discrepancies are due to differences in approaches—statistical modeling, structural modeling, and meta-analysis—that have unique strengths and limitations. The authors highlight challenges in reconciling these estimates, including differences in methodology, data limitations, and uncertainties in economic responses to climate change. Elicitations across experts also lead to extensive variation in quantitative estimates of economic impacts from climate change. The paper emphasizes the need for greater transparency, disaggregation, as well as uncertainty quantification and analysis.
